The General Assembly of the ACB unanimously elected Antonio Martín on Monday as the new President of the Association of Basketball Clubs. Martín (Madrid, 1966) combines his successful career on the courts with a recognized professional career, both in basketball and in other businesses related to sports, technology, banking and television. 

The ACB General Assembly, meeting this Monday in Barcelona, ​​has appointed Antonio Martín Espina as the new President of the Association of Basketball Clubs.

Martín (Madrid, 1966) has been unanimously elected as President and is incorporated immediately, participating in the following points of the day of the General Assembly.

The new President of the Association has shown "great satisfaction for being elected as President of an organization of the relevance of the ACB, a competition in which I have been born and grow during my sports career and professional and I've always felt part of".

Martín wanted "to thank the clubs for the trust placed in me for the position", ensuring that "will be put to work immediately to boost the development of the ACB and the Endesa League for the next few years".

The appointment of Antonio Martín as President of the ACB is added to that of José Miguel Calleja as Director General on March 26 and completes the new leadership of the ACB.

Antonio Martín, a legend on the slopes with a recognized professional career

Antonio Martín Espina (Madrid, 06/18/1966) combines a successful career as a player with a recognized stage in the professional field, both in basketball and in other businesses related to sports, technology, banking and TV.

Martín played 14 seasons in the national basketball elite and was 62 times international with Spain. After his debut with the Students in the 1982-83 National League he signed for Real Madrid, club in which he developed the rest of his career until his retirement in 1995, with the only exception of the 1986-87 season at the University of Pepperdine in the United States. In his 13 seasons at Real Madrid, Martín won five leagues, four Copas del Rey, a Super Cup, a Euroleague, two Cups and a Korac Cup. With the Spanish National Team, bronze was hung in the Eurobasket in Rome 1991, being also a member of the ideal quintet.

After his retirement, Antonio Martín continued to be closely linked to basketball: between 2005 and 2009 he was Director of the Real Madrid basketball section. He also advised the ACB in 2010 on the signing of the first television contract for the global management of international competition rights.

Seventh president of the history of the ACB and first former player

Antonio Martín becomes the seventh President of the ACB in his 36 years of history, and the first former professional player to hold the position. He succeeds Francisco Roca (2014-17) on a list that Antonio Novoa started with the foundation of the Association on March 3, 1982. He was succeeded by Mariano Jaquotot, Juan Fernández and Evaristo del Río, in short stages before the appointment by Eduardo Portela in 1990. The current President of Honor held the position of President between 1990 and 2013.
