The City Council renews the agreement with Básquet Manresa for the promotion of the image of the city and for the promotion of grassroots sports
This agreement reaffirms the special significance of the sport of basketball in Manresa and the existence of a club that bears the name of the city in the highest state category, participating one more year in European competitions. The subsidy amounts to 370,000 euros.
The mayor of Manresa, Marc Aloy Guàrdia, and the president of Básquet Manresa SAE, Jordi Serracanta Espinalt, renewed this Monday morning the collaboration agreement for the promotion of the image of the city, which with the team travels to all ACB cities in Spain and, like last season, also to those of the European teams playing in the Basketball Champions League. The signing event was also attended by the councilor for Sports, Antoni Massegú Calveras, and the club manager, Carles Sixto Fíguls.
This agreement reaffirms the special significance of the sport of basketball in Manresa and the existence of a club that bears the name of the city in the highest state category, also participating in European competitions. Last season, the team participated in the Copa del Rey in Granada, an event with great media coverage, and played in Bilbao in a historic Final Four of the Champions League, a European competition in which Básquet Manresa is returning to play a good role this year. He will play in the quarterfinals next week and is just one step away from playing the Final Four again.
The Manresa club is, therefore, an important means of promotion and external projection of Manresa, and also acts as a generator of positive synergies in the different areas of the city's economic activity. Likewise, the existence of the professional team is considered essential for Manresa to maintain the brand of basketball city and to continue to be a clear benchmark for the practice of basketball among the school and youth population.
With the agreement, Manresa City Council and Manresa SAE Basketball regulate a voluntary relationship of collaboration, according to which the City Council undertakes to grant a subsidy of 370,000 euros, to contribute to the participation in the state and European competitions and to collaborate directly with different groups in the city to promote and encourage sport.
