Official statement of the acb
The clubs of the acb, met this Monday in the Assembly in a telematic way, have unanimously agreed on the path to follow for the resumption of the competition, always conditioned to the evolution of the measures decreed by the health authorities
The acb clubs, met this Monday in the Assembly in a telematic way, have unanimously agreed on the route to follow for the resumption of the competition, always conditional on the evolution of the measures decreed by the health authorities and the maximum guarantees of preserving the health for all players, coaches, referees and other participants.
In this way, the clubs have unanimously agreed on the following points:
• Establish with the competent authorities a health protocol for the resumption of training and competition that guarantees the health of all participants in the competition.
• To end the Regular League due to force majeure. With one third of the competition pending, there will be no relegation to the LEB Oro.
• Decide the 2019-20 Endesa League title through a final phase that will be played by the top 12 in the Regular League, and which will be held in a single venue.
• The venue where this final phase will be held will be designated in the near future. The guarantee of compliance with the guidelines set by the health authorities will be the first criterion to define the venue.
• For this purpose, a minimum of three weeks of preparation is set before the resumption of the competition.
• May 31 is established as the maximum date for, depending on the measures taken by the authorities, to decide the final phase dispute or to end the Endesa 19-20 League.
• July 10 has been set as the cap for the completion of the Endesa 19-20 League.
• In the event of having to definitively end the competition on May 31, the Endesa League title would be void.
This will be the final phase for the Endesa League 2019-20
The top 12 ranked after Day 23 of the Regular League will be measured in a single venue to dispute the Endesa League title, in an outcome contingent on the evolution of the health emergency and the maximum guarantees for the health of all participants.
The 12 teams will be grouped into two groups of six teams, distributed according to their classification in the Regular League following the distribution criteria equivalent to the Playoff format. All teams will play five games, one against each rival in their group.
The top two finishers in each group will meet in the semifinals, and the winners will play the final, in both cases in a single match.
In total, 33 matches will be played within two weeks.
Assessment of Antonio Martín
“We want to share the pain that we live in the acb and within all the clubs for the terrible effects caused by the pandemic, and especially to send a hug from the world of basketball to the families that are suffering directly. Nor do we want to forget a big applause to all health workers and all sectors that work daily for the health and well-being of the entire country ”
"I want to thank all the clubs for their trust and for having put aside their individual interests looking for the common good of the acb".
"The format that best suits the difficult situation we are in today has also been unanimously agreed: a unique headquarters that, following strict protocols to ensure the maximum guarantees issued by the health authorities, can resolve the title of the Endesa League within two weeks of competition. In order to choose the site, we will study all the proposals, taking the health guarantees as the first criterion ”.
"All the clubs, given the impossibility of playing a third of the Regular League, have understood that there should be no relegation to the LEB Oro."
"We are in permanent contact and in tune with the CSD, since above all there is something very clear: the competition will only resume if there are all the health guarantees for players, coaches, referees and other participants. If this is not possible, we will end the season. "
